Decisions are delayed
The Penguins have delayed a decision on whether to remove Jocelyn Thibault from the injured-reserve list, even though he was eligible to leave it yesterday.
There is no urgency to make a move because the Penguins don't have a game until Thursday, when New Jersey visits Mellon Arena, and their minor-league affiliate in Wilkes-Barre is off until Friday. Management presumably wants to make certain Thibault is ready to resume playing before he comes off IR.
Most indications are that when the Penguins activate Thibault, whose kneecap was badly bruised when struck by a shot in a game-day skate nine days ago, they will return Marc-Andre Fleury to the Baby Penguins.
Fleury, brought up from Wilkes-Barre when Thibault was hurt, is the only goalie on the Penguins' major-league roster who does not have to clear waivers.
For the Penguins, the only downside to keeping him here is that Fleury draws his major-league salary, which is about 10 times what he makes in the minors, as long as he's on the NHL roster.
